A letter to our special son

Dear son,

We know that in these past couple of weeks school has been hard for you. We’ve come to this dreaded point, where you get misjudged, labeled, mistreated and blamed for even the things you weren’t responsible for. Your teachers fail you. Your friends badmouth you. People around you think you’re a trouble maker.

Yes, you do need to work on those emotional outbursts, but take your time, we understand. We understand that those impulses are like reflexes, nearly impossible to halt. It will take much more time and effort for you to reach the emotional maturity needed to be accepted by the world. But don’t worry, we love you just the way you are. Because we know that nobody’s perfect. And in your imperfection, you’ve reminded us that we are all imperfect beings and that it’s more important to grow and learn than pretending to be perfect.

We know you’ve tried really hard to sit nicely in class. And you’ve fought hard in those daily battles against excruciating boredom at certain times. We also know that you’ve struggled to cope with your own difficulties. How tiring and frustrating, agonizing and heart-breaking your journey has been.

We’re worried if they might expel you from school, just because you’re different. And not many people like challenges and differences, or difficulties. Should this happen, and it might not, with situational changes and financial burdens, we are much more concerned about your state of mind, wellbeing and mental health.
Don’t ever feel you’re not good enough, if God thinks you are better elsewhere, have faith that it will be better. Consider it a blessing that you will learn new things and new environments, this might help you learn to be flexible and resilient.

The road so far had been rough. Looks like it will keep getting rougher still. Take courage, dear, we will walk you down that path. HIS grace is always sufficient. Together, we shall overcome.

In our hearts and prayers,

Your loving Papa and Mama

“Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
Psalms 27:12-14

  1. And you sometimes wonder why God gave you him to the both of you (though I know it's only normal)? I think this letter is enough proof already despite all the battles you've gone through - and will go through. :-)

  3. You are the best parents for D. You are as much a gift to D as he is to you! This letter is the proof. You have no idea just how touched I am reading this letter, and just how proud I am of all 3 of you! God has sustained you, and will continue to do so. If all mothers would be half the mother you are, this world would be a much better place! :)
    xoxo!
